Essential oils to minimize Lupus symptoms

About five years ago my boyfriend started getting thick red rashes on his face, behind his ears, and on the back of his neck.  He noticed that the rashes would appear when he spent a significant amount of time outside.  He decided to see his allergist and they were not really sure what was causing the rash, so they recommended he see a dermatologist.  The dermatologist was not really sure what to make of it at first, but after numerous blood tests, they found that he had Cutaneous Lupus.  This type of lupus affects the skin.

He was prescribed steroids which didn't work and then put him on a medication that was typically prescribed to prevent malaria if traveling to areas where it is common.  This medication is typically meant for short time use and had many, many side effects.  The one that concerned us the most was severe vision change with long term use, since he makes his living doing auto-body painting.  He would immediately have stomach issues with this prescription, but if he didn't take it, the rash would appear within days.

He had been dealing with this for quite a while when I was introduced to essential oils.  I knew there was no way in the world I was going to convince him to use the oils. He pretty much told me I had lost my mind and that my "voodoo" was not going to do anything, when I brought my essential oils home.  I decided to ask him to try the oils after I had seen significant improvement in mine and my daughter's health.   His typical guy response was, "NO!!! I don't want to walk around smelling like that."  So, I left it alone for about a year.  In this amount of time, he started to get the joint and muscle pain that comes with Lupus.  He started taking pain killers and muscle relaxers on the bad days.  When the bad days started happening more and more, I decided I needed to step in and ask him again to give the essential oils a try.

I found this great product called Deep Blue Rub and knew if he would at least try this, it would open him up to trying other things.
Deep Blue Rub is a cream infused with CPTG essential oils.  It targets comfort to sore joints and muscles.  He decided it was worth a try and within minutes he was asking me what I had put on him because it was helping his sore muscles.  I think at this point I was probably smiling from ear to ear because I thought, "Yes...I think the door is now open for trying other things!!!"  I started doing research on Lupus and the use of essential oils and found that the number one product to use was Life Long Vitality Pack.  I had heard many great stories from friends about how great they felt after using these vitamins within a few days.  I thought, "I am never going to convince him to try vitamins!!!"  But, I decided to talk to him about it and I was amazed at how quickly he decided to try them. He told me if the Deep Blue EO helps he was willing to try anything.  He started taking the LLV pack immediately and started seeing improvements in his joints and muscles.

One of my friends was doing her weekly conference calls on the oils and the lady speaking told her story about how Lupus no longer controls her life.  After the call, I decided I needed to call her and get the specifics on what she was doing.  After talking to her and getting all the wonderful tips she could offer, I started concocting a special blend for him.  He was a little apprehensive at first because he was worried that everyone would think he smells, but since he saw the results with the Deep Blue Rub and LLV pack he decided to give it a try.  He started putting the blend on his feet morning and night.

  3. I am sorry it has taken so long to respond.
My BF uses the LLV pack daily and we added a few oils to his daily regimen. I put about ten drops of the following oils in a rollerball and fill the rest with FCO.
    Frankincense
    Mellisa
    Balance
    On Guard
He rubs these oils on his feet morning and night.
We also use the Immortelle and Clear Skin when he has skin flare ups.
Drinking water with Lemon EO is also highly recommended.
    I hope this helps!

  5. Hi! Do you use 10 drops of EACH of the oils?
I am preparing this for my friend who suffers from Lupus and has been in a lot of pain lately :(
I'm hoping this & the Deep Blue will help her - then if she is interested, I can give her the vitamins to try.
    Thanks for helping!!!!!!!

    1. I use ten drops of each oil except for Mellisa; I use five drops of it. Fill the rest of the bottle with FCO. I recommend using it at least two times a day.

I hope they decide to try the vitamins. He really believes that is what is helping him the most. But he did say he can tell when he forgets to use the oil or take the vitamins, so it is probably a combination.

We also found that Immortelle works the best for the bumps/rashes he gets on his skin if he is exposed to the sun too much. It usually takes them away in a few days.

I hope this helps and good luck!!

    2. Thanks SO much for your quick reply!!!
I didn't see your note before I prepared a sample for her -
I used 5 drops of each and added FCO to fill just over halfway.
This will give her enough to try & see if it will help or not.
If she does, then we'll use your directions or future reference! :)

I'm really hoping she will get some relief. She has 2 small boys & life is too short to spend suffering.

  7. Hi,

I just found this site and I am really happy, because I tried some essential oils before and they seem to help. Of course, it was just a try at the time. The information I find here is really precious.
About 4 years ago I've been diagnosed with Discoid Lupus. I have one big lesion on my face and I had this for almost 2 years now. The topical corticosteroids don't help at all, they worsen the situation.

My question is, with the blend you described, how long it takes for the lesions to heal, or fade...? I know it is different from person to person, but just to have an idea?

    Thank you!

  8. Hi Gabriela,
The blend that seems to help the rash the most is a blend from dōTERRA called Immortelle. It seems to take about a week or so to fade. I recommend morning and night. Are you familiar with dōTERRA oils?
